Hypoid gears
Hypoid gears are widely used in power transmission of transmission systems such as cars, heavy trucks, mining vehicle drive axles, and aircraft transmissions. They are one of the most widely used power transmission methods between staggered or non-staggered shafts.
Definition of hypoid gear:
Hypoid gears use conical surfaces as pitching surfaces. Since it is difficult to manufacture hypoid gears, hypoid surfaces close to hyperboloids are often used as pitching surfaces. Such gears are called hypoid gears. Their appearance is very similar to curved bevel gears. The tooth height can be divided into standard contraction teeth, double double contraction teeth, inclined root line contraction teeth, and long-amplitude epicycloidal teeth of equal height.
Characteristics of hypoid gears:
1. Axis offset: Hypoid gears are used for transmission between two axes with staggered axes. The distance that the axis of the small wheel deviates from the axis of the large wheel is called the offset distance. The existence of the offset distance makes the transmission design layout more flexible.
2. Large helix angle: The direction of the offset is generally taken to increase the helix angle of the small wheel. As the offset distance increases, the helix angle of the small wheel also increases, and the outer diameter of the small wheel also increases, which can improve the rigidity and strength of the small wheel.
3. Smooth transmission: The small wheel of the hypoid gear pair has a larger helix angle, which obtains a greater overlap when meshing, and the transmission is smoother.
4. Complex surface: The tooth surface is a complex surface, and it is difficult to obtain a relatively accurate geometric model and finite element model using the usual method.
Advantages of hypoid gears:
1. High torque can be transmitted in a limited structural space, achieving high running smoothness.
2. Compact structure, can be used in combination with other types of reducers.
3. The output shaft can be realized as a hollow shaft, which is convenient for passing through pipelines or using clamping kits.
